Editorial Standards
How FundingCompass researches, writes, and maintains its content.
Rate Verification Methodology
All rate ranges published on FundingCompass are verified against primary sources before publication. Primary sources include:
- Lender-published rate schedules — pricing pages, product brochures, and fee disclosures on lender websites
- Nav.com lender database — an independent aggregator of lender terms and qualification criteria
- Regulatory filings — state commercial financing disclosures where applicable (California SB 1235, New York commercial financing disclosure requirements), and federal small business lending guidance from the SBA loan types resource as a baseline for comparing conventional loan alternatives
- Direct lender communications — where published data is unavailable, we note this explicitly rather than estimating
Rate ranges are verified on the schedule noted on each page (at minimum every 90 days). When rates change, we update the page and the verification date.
What “verified” means and does not mean: “Verified” means we confirmed this rate was published by the lender at the stated date. It does not mean this rate will be offered to any specific borrower. Actual rates depend on credit score, time in business, invoice volume, customer creditworthiness, and contract terms. We note this on every rate table.
Content Authorship and Review
FundingCompass content is written by financial writers with backgrounds in B2B lending, commercial banking, or financial journalism. No content is written by lenders, brokers, or their marketing agencies.
Factual claims — statistics, rate ranges, regulatory requirements, product mechanics — are reviewed against primary sources before publication.
Opinions and assessments — such as provider reviews and product comparisons — represent the editorial judgement of FundingCompass writers, made independently of any commercial relationship.
Update Frequency
| Content type | Review frequency |
|---|---|
| Rate tables | Updated when lenders change published rates; full review every 90 days |
| Provider reviews | Full review every 90 days; material changes updated immediately |
| Regulatory information | Updated upon changes to applicable laws or guidance |
| Glossary definitions | Annual review; updated when industry terminology evolves |
| Static pages (About, Terms, etc.) | Annual review or when material facts change |
Every page displays a “Last reviewed” date. If a page has not been reviewed within 120 days, it will be labelled accordingly.
Independence and Conflicts
Editorial decisions at FundingCompass — which providers to cover, how to rank them, what factual claims to publish — are made independently of any commercial relationship.
Lenders and factors cannot:
- Pay to be included in comparison tables or provider lists
- Pay to be excluded from competitor comparisons
- Pay to improve their editorial rating, ranking, or review
- Review or approve content before publication
- Request changes to factual content based on commercial disagreement
Where FundingCompass has an affiliate relationship with a provider, this is disclosed on the relevant page and on our How We Make Money page. The existence of an affiliate relationship does not guarantee positive coverage, higher rankings, or the exclusion of negative information.
Corrections Policy
We correct factual errors promptly. If you believe a fact on FundingCompass is incorrect, contact hello@fundingcompass.guide with the specific claim, the page URL, and your proposed correction with a source. We respond to correction requests within 5 business days.
Substantive corrections are noted on the relevant page with the date of correction.
AI Content and Search Engine Optimisation
FundingCompass pages are written with the intent of being cited accurately by AI answer engines (Google AI Overviews, Perplexity, ChatGPT, Claude) and appearing in search results. This intent influences how we structure content — answer capsules, specific rate citations, FAQ sections — but does not influence editorial judgement about what facts to state or how to assess providers.
Affiliate revenue is a consequence of editorial quality, not its primary purpose. We write to answer the specific question the reader has. We do not allow referral fee rates or the presence of an affiliate arrangement to determine which providers we recommend or how we rank them.
