About FundingCompass
FundingCompass is an independent editorial guide to specialty B2B financing. We help business owners understand, compare, and navigate invoice factoring, equipment financing, and merchant cash advances — without lender bias.
Who We Are
We are a team of financial writers, researchers, and editors with backgrounds in B2B lending, business banking, and financial journalism. We do not work for any lender, broker, or financing company. Our content is produced independently and reviewed for factual accuracy against lender-published rate schedules, regulatory filings, and publicly available data.
Every rate range on FundingCompass includes a verification date. We update rate data when lenders change their published schedules, and we conduct a full review of all pages at minimum every 90 days.
David Mercer — Lead Financial Writer
David Mercer is an independent financial writer specializing in B2B specialty financing, invoice factoring, and equipment lending. Over a decade of experience evaluating alternative lending products for small and mid-size businesses. His work focuses on translating complex fee structures and contract terms into plain-language comparisons that business owners can act on.
David reviews all rate data on FundingCompass against lender-published schedules and has evaluated pricing structures from more than 40 factoring companies, equipment lenders, and MCA providers. He holds no financial interest in any lender reviewed on this site.
Why We Built This
The B2B funding market has a persistent information problem. Lender marketing presents rates in ways that obscure true cost — factor rates instead of APR, weekly rates instead of monthly, advance rates that differ between marketing and actual offers. Broker-operated comparison sites have obvious incentive to direct traffic toward high-commission products regardless of fit.
Business owners making financing decisions under time pressure often lack access to neutral, specific, and current information. FundingCompass exists to provide that information.
What We Cover
FundingCompass focuses on specialty B2B financing that is underserved by mainstream financial media:
- Invoice factoring — how it works, what it costs, and how to find the right factor for your industry
- Equipment financing — loan vs. lease, rate comparison, Section 179 implications
- Merchant cash advances — honest cost analysis and alternatives
- Industry-specific factoring — trucking, staffing, healthcare, construction
- Provider reviews — independent assessments of specific lenders and factors
We do not cover personal loans, consumer mortgages, student loans, or general banking products.
Our Editorial Standards
Every piece of content on FundingCompass follows these principles:
Plain numbers over vague claims. We write “advance rate: 80–90%, fee: 1.5–3.5% per 30 days” — not “competitive rates.” If we cannot source a specific figure, we say so rather than generalising.
Always state the downside. Every financing product has a cost, risk, or limitation. We name it explicitly. Trust is built by telling you what could go wrong, not by presenting every option as a good one.
Clarity first. Our content is written to answer your question, not to push you toward an application. Where we link to a provider, we disclose whether a referral relationship exists — and that relationship never influences how we assess them.
Cite sources with dates. All rate ranges include the source and verification month/year. Rates change — you deserve to know when the data was last confirmed.
For detailed methodology, see Editorial Standards.
Revenue and Independence
FundingCompass is advertiser-funded and editorially independent. We earn referral fees when readers apply for products through links on this site — this is how independent financial publishing sustains itself.
Those commercial relationships do not influence our editorial decisions. Providers cannot pay to improve their ranking, modify their review, or suppress negative information. Every affiliate relationship is disclosed individually on the relevant page and listed on our How We Make Money page.
